Upon completion of the internship, students should be able to:
1. Apply relevant linguistics-related concepts (text analysis, text mining, speech therapy, syntactic analysis, speech synthesis, translation, etc.) in a professional setting.
2. Formulate a career development plan based on a critical self-assessment of personal and professional skills and competences (e.g. timeliness, ability to work with little supervision, leadership, creativity, etc.)
3. Relate theories and concepts in Linguistics with professional practice in the industry through a critical reflection on the work-based learning experience.
- The internship gives students the opportunity to apply and deepen the skills, knowledge and abilities learned during Trimesters 1 and 2 to actual professional settings while acquiring new skill sets, such as engaging in actual problem solving and decision-making as well as planning, implementing, and evaluating activities.
- The placement will help students prepare for the contemporary workplace through their exposure to real-life and professional activities and challenges (teamwork, supervision, tight deadlines, etc.) and numerous interactions with industry professionals (line managers, team members, clients, etc.)
- The internship will also allow students to broaden their understanding of the different professions available in their field and help them identify the field(s) of expertise they wish to specialise in.
- The placement is also a great opportunity to start building essential industry-related networks.
