Media performances of language can help or hurt the believability of the worlds they strive to create. The language of scripted television and film can be studied from a number of different perspectives including as a vehicle for representing communities and language users. This module introduces students to some of these perspectives and encourages a critical reflection on media representations of language.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

1. Describe the use of language in televisual media
2. Analyse the processes involved in mediatising language
3. Compare performances between media
4. Examine how knowledge of Linguistics can aid in mediatising language
5. Design a set of practices
