This module will discuss:
* critical assessment of definitions the concept of Creole
* theories and research on the emergence of Creole languages
* current patterns of language use, both from a sociolinguistic and structural linguistic perspective, including critical assessment of existing theories
* socio-political and applied linguistic issues relating to Creole languages
* the relationship of Creoles to other categories of languages
