This module is dedicated to specialist research in Linguistics. Students have to be manually registered to this module. Students must propose a project to a potential supervisor towards the end of the Autumn trimester and gain approval before they can be properly registered. Students wishing to register for this module are required to have a minimum Stage 2 GPA of 3.08, have a minimum of a B+ in a Stage 2 module that represents or is closely allied to their area of interest. They must also have the agreement of the relevant member of the Linguistics faculty as supervisor.

Learning Outcomes:

Learn to carry out research including the following:
- identify research question(s)
- identify the relevant background literature
- learn about and apply research methods, frameworks etc.
- collect data/build a corpus and analyse relevant material
- present research findings

Indicative Module Content:

During Autumn students who have achieved a certain minimum GPA will propose a research project in consultation with a staff member based on their own interests. If the project can be facilitated by one of the staff members, that staff member will then supervise the development of the project during the Spring trimester.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Students will discuss activities with their project supervisor, they will then carry them out and receive oral and written feedback from their supervisor.
