Purpose & Content The module is designed to provide students with the extensive knowledge of the regulation of Financial Technology (FinTech), Technology for Finance (TechFin), Regulatory Technology (RegTech), Supervisory Technology (SupTech) and Legal Technology (LegalTech). We will look at issues including i) regulation of data privacy, cybersecurity and roboadvice in FinTech and TechFin; ii) regulatory compliance (RegTech), supervision (SupTech) and the use of legal technology (LegalTech); iii) challenges presented by regulating FinTech at the level of EU law and private law.

Learning Outcomes:

Learning Outcomes After the completion of this module, students will be able to: i) describe and discuss FinTech, TechFin, RegTech, SupTech and LegalTech and the issues they pose to the regulators, service providers, customers and global financial system; ii) outline and evaluate the regime of duties and liabilities in FinTech (regulatory, private and criminal law); iii) write a dissertation discussing the regulation of FinTech in two jurisdictions of their choice.

Active learning approach during lectures: this module studies a very evolving area of law. Therefore, students are expected to read the academic papers proposed at the beginning of the course in order to reflect upon the issues discussed in the lecture theatre.
