LAW41960 Advanced Tort Law 2

Academic Year 2021/2022

This module will examine in detail various stand alone torts. The topics will relate to land based torts including Public and Private Nuisance, Rylands v. Fletcher and Trespass to land. Strict liability will be investigated including Liability for Animals and Products Liability . The intentional torts of Trespass to the person and trespass to goods are studied as well Defamation and its defenses. Defenses generally available in Tort law complete the module content. Statutory liability in the form of Occupier's Liability is examined. The module compliments the material covered in Advanced Torts 1. The purpose of the module is to demonstrate the various forms of liability that exist in Tort Law.

Students should have an in depth knowledge of the legal principles operating in each topic of the module and be able to apply these principles to hypothetical scenarios.. Students should appreciate the various forms of liability that arise across the range of topics.
