This course will consider the theoretical underpinnings and development of contemporary international human rights law. It will critically examine the institutional architecture developed by the UN system and regional systems to implement human rights norms as well as national methods of implementation of human rights law. The course will also consider key themes and challenges facing those systems in securing effective protection of human rights.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to (1) Demonstrate knowledge of theoretical debates in contemporary international human rights law; (2) Critically evaluate the operation of various international human rights mechanisms at the global, regional level and national level; (3) Apply international human rights law to hypothetical fact situations.
