About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

By taking this module, students should:

- gain practical expertise in Irish financial services law and regulation, including in developing areas such as FinTech, AML, AI, and financial sanctions;
- develop skills to navigate compliance, authorisation, and enforcement processes;
- get insight into handling complex client scenarios and balancing legal analysis with commercial factors, using real-world case studies and regulatory insights.

Indicative Module Content:

The course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key principles, laws, and regulations that shape the financial services industry in Ireland, and how these are applied in practice.

Areas covered include:
- A review of the landscape of regulated financial services in Ireland;
- MiFID; the Irish investment services regime;
- Regulation of fintech in Ireland;
- Anti-money laundering in Irish financial services;
- EU financial sanctions;
- Law and regulation governing the use of technology and AI in financial services;
- The Individual Accountability Framework;
- The Central Bank of Ireland's approach to supervision and enforcement.
