LAW37680 BCL Internship

Please note that students cannot register to this module. They should choose six other modules for Trimester 2 of Stage 3, which they will drop if chosen for the internship module during Trimester 1.

This paid internship module (which is open to students studying on the BCL programmes except Law with Chinese, Law with French Law and the Maitrise) enables students to experience a 14 week placement with an employer in a professional environment. The module provides students with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they have already acquired at university to real-life situations and to further develop a range of workplace skills including teamwork, time management and communication skills. Students will apply for places on the module by responding to internship advertisements on Careers Connect, and selection will be by employer interview. Placements will be in positions that are complementary to the study of Law and may include, for example, internships with law firms, in the legal departments of companies and in the non-governmental sector.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The primary approach to teaching and learning on this internship module is experiential learning or 'learning by doing.' Participating students will experience a unique learning environment in the professional world, which will provide challenges and opportunities. Reflection is also an important dimension of this module - students will be required to complete a monthly learning log reflecting on their learning over the previous 4 weeks.
