This module is the second part of the introductory course on French Civil Law for second year students of the BCL Law with French Law and BCL/ Maîtrise programmes. The course is divided into 2 sections: 1. Droit des Contrats (Contract Law). 2. Responsabilité Civile (Tort Law). It is taught in French and reflects the way law is taught in French universities. In order to prepare the students for their studies in France (Level 3 for BCL Law with French Law students and Levels 3 and 4 for BCL/Maîtrise students), the course puts strong emphasis on French legal methodology and examination techniques. This module uses Brightspace.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Explain the basic notions of French contract and tort law.
2. Conduct research in the field of French Civil Law relying on primary and secondary sources in French and using French legal terminology.
3. Apply French civil law to factual situations/problem questions.
4. Write legal opinions using the French ‘plan’ system (two sections, two sub-sections).

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Active learning approach during lectures and tutorials:
- Lectures: students must come prepared having read before class lecture's notes available on Brightspace; in case class notes are available after the lecture, students must make sure they read them after class and before the next class.
- Tutorials: students must come prepared with their questions about the dissertation exercise and, as appropriate, must have done the preparatory work asked by the lecturer-tutor.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Feedback will be given to students in LAW20360 French Private Law 2 on various occasions: -Orally, during tutorials. - After the delivery of their dissertation, students will be given class feedback on the dissertation. - Post-examination, class feedback will be posted on Brightspace (indicative, not full model answers).
