LARC40510 Landscape Study I

Academic Year 2021/2022

The two landscape study modules are consecutive studios that bring students of the MArchSc programme together with the MLA students under the graduate theme of "deep landscape". Carried out in collaboration with each other and with the local community, our immersive landscape approach supposes close observation, investigation, research, spending time in the field, getting to know both the place and the people.

This first trimester studio takes the form of a creative analysis; it takes an interdisciplinary outlook in investigating the range of pressures that moulded this contemporary landscape, and that demand future change. Students develop their research language, through readings, research, discussion and fieldwork, under the guidance of studio staff.

Regular tutorials support progress, with occasional reviews involving school staff and visiting experts. A studio report is submitted at the end of the trimester, compiling and collating the process and progress of the work and reflecting the student's thinking on the territory of enquiry.
