LARC20170 Landscape Theory and History

This module builds on LARC 10110 Understanding Landscape and provides an introduction to some of the key theoretical concepts that underpin contemporary landscape architecture. It examines the changing relations between landscape, culture and society through time and introduces some of the key influences on contemporary landscape design. The module aims to provide students with the vocabulary, tools and design precedents to support the analysis of landscape architecture practice and to enrich studio design. The module promotes skills in spoken and written communication. Assessment is in the form of a trimester paper and a presentation .

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module students will:
1. Be familiar with the main texts on landscape theory and will know how to apply this knowledge to their studio work.
2. Have acquired the skills of communicating and presenting theories in landscape architecture to their peers;
3. Indicate ability in research and critical thinking in the preparation of an academic paper.
