This module is designed to equip practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of how learners develop language from a TESOL pedagogical perspective. Drawing on research findings from the field of Instructed Second Language Acquisition and using the CEFR as the overarching theoretical framework, students will explore the second language learning journey across key language skill areas, analyze learner differences, and examine the connection between language learning and teaching.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students will:

● Be able to explain key theories of second language learning and acquisition within the context of TESOL.
● Understand the action-oriented approach to language learning as outlined in the CEFR, including perspectives on learner autonomy.
● Describe the acquisition of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) from a pedagogical perspective.
● Demonstrate a critical analysis of individual learner differences and the ability to analyze learner language to understand language development and select appropriate instructional strategies.
