Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- employ academic reading skills and strategies
- make effective notes on an academic text and use notes to summarise texts
- demonstrate an understanding of the writing process (planning, drafting, editing/proofreading) and the writing product (structure, academic language, writing conventions)
- produce different types of written academic texts (e.g. summaries, argumentative essays, cause-effect, problem-solution) using appropriate language
- respect academic integrity by avoiding plagiarism and using appropriate referencing and citation

Students will be exposed to a wide range of topics of general academic and social interest by critically engaging with academic texts and producing different types of essays.
