Curricular information is subject to change.

This module is designed to help students develop the academic aural and oral skills required for successful participation in an English-medium higher education environment.

Students are introduced to the structure of academic lectures, listening comprehension strategies and practice in note-taking while listening. They have the opportunity to develop their spoken production skills through short presentations on academic topics and their spoken interaction skills through active participation in seminars and group discussions. Classroom activities also help students to become more fluent speakers and expand the range of language used for different functional purposes (e.g. expressing opinion, giving reasons/explanations, etc.).

The module is delivered via small group, face-to-face teaching. Additional learning materials, online resources and activities are provided via Brightspace to facilitate guided independent study and group work.
