ITAL20010 Italian Language II a

Academic Year 2022/2023

This is the third of a series of modules leading to proficiency in Italian at university level. It builds on and develops the work done in Level 1 modules (Italian Language Ia/ITAL10020 and Italian Language Ib/ITAL10030), aiming above all at improving the skills necessary to understand written and spoken Italian, to communicate effectively in Italian, in both written and spoken form, and to render and explain in clear English a range of Italian texts, documents, utterances, etc. The course consists of 3 classes: 2 grammar and language skills classes, and 1 translation class. The classes cover the grammatical and communicative syllabus and develop oral, aural, written and spoken skills, but more specifically one focuses on translation from Italian into English, while the other places particular stress on developing language abilities through written and spoken communication. Students are expected to engage fully with the classes and the documents and materials uploaded on Brightspace. Students who achieve at least a B grade in this module will have reached a level of competency approaching the level B1 of the CEFR.
