This core module equips LIS students with the knowledge and skills required to design, deliver, and manage high-quality information services within today’s rapidly evolving library and information provision landscape. It blends user-focused competencies such as effective interviewing, question negotiation, advanced literature searching, and critical resource evaluation with essential strategic and managerial abilities, including planning, leadership, budgeting, change management, marketing, and stakeholder engagement.

Students will examine collection development principles, programme creation, and methods for evaluation, alongside evidence-informed practice. The module also emphasises the coordination of people, projects, and resources to achieve organisational goals efficiently. Through the integration of theoretical frameworks with practical tools, students are prepared for both direct service delivery and higher-level organisational leadership. By the end, students will acquire the necessary the adaptability, confidence, and professional insight required to adapt to emerging trends, address complex challenges, and excel across diverse information environments.

Learning Outcomes:

Design and implement information services that integrate user-focused competencies with strategic and managerial best practices.

Critically appraise and apply theoretical frameworks to guide decision-making in service delivery, programme development, and organisational leadership.

Conduct and evaluate advanced literature searches and resource assessments to address user needs.

Plan, coordinate, and manage people, projects, and resources effectively to achieve organisational goals in dynamic information environments.

Demonstrate adaptability and leadership in responding to emerging trends, technological change, and evolving user needs within library and information provision contexts.
