Academic Year 2022/2023

This module examines the unique cultural practices of media production. By focusing on cultures of production within the communication industries, this module will enable students to examine and interrogate spaces of media production. In doing so, it will focus on creative media industries that are in a constant state of change, brought about by rapid technological innovation and the increasingly dynamic relationship between audience and producer. The module provides a basis for aspiring media professionals that will familiarize them with production practices and professions of varying aspects of communications and media. To that end, industrial and critical practices, production studies research and equality, diversity and inclusion in the industry will form the basis of the course. In examining these facets, the module blends both theoretical and practical components, challenging students to research and interview communications professionals, while also devising their own production projects, such as podcasts, short video content and/or social media content.
