This module examines the ways in which scholarly work is produced, disseminated, evaluated, and preserved in academic and research institutions. Students will be introduced to topics including print and digital publishing, societal impact, copyright, open research, and research evaluation. This module is open to MLIS and PhD students (all disciplines).

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Articulate the diverse research and publication practices in different research fields
- Identify and recommend platforms for publishing and promoting scholarly work, including traditional and non-traditional research outputs
- Engage in discussions and development of open research
- Explain common copyright and licensing issues related to academic publishing
- Develop impact statements, impact case studies and research-for-policy
- Analyse the purposes, uses and implications of bibliometrics and research assessments
