IS30410 Web UX Evaluation

Academic Year 2020/2021

This module is an Experiential Learning module, designed to support Stage 3 BSc Soc Sci I&CS students in making connections between the university and the real world.

You will be working on a single project throughout the module. You will select a website of your choice and evaluate it for usability and accessibility. You can choose any website you wish. However, you may like to use this assessment as an opportunity to contribute to  a voluntary / community-based / charitable / educational / sporting or other worthwhile organisation. You will be testing this website and producing a report.

You will interview a representative of the website you have chosen to determine your research objectives. You will  then perform 9 usability tests. Usability testing involves testing of a website by potential users. During a test, participants attempt to complete typical tasks while observers watch, listen and take notes.

You will then use Optimal Workshop Reframer software to process and analyse the results of your tests.

You will carry out accessibility testing of your chosen website. Website accessibility refers to the fact that a website should be workable for all users, regardless of their physical or cognitive ability, their hardware, software, language or location.

You will submit a report detailing the process of usability and accessibility testing, the results and recommendations.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
