Information science and social media influence our everyday lives, yet we rarely take notice or attempt to understand their influence. This module will introduce students to the concepts associated with information science and social media and associate them with everyday life. Students will gain an understanding of the terms and concepts, as well as demonstrate how they can be applied in everyday life and careers. While many who enrol in this module may not go on to major in information studies, the useful skills gained in this module can be applied to a number of other areas of interest.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Gain a basic understanding of the history and concepts associated with information
science and social media.
2. Summarize the main areas of study in information studies and social media.
3. Demonstrate how the techniques associated with information science can be applied in different areas of everyday life.
4. Critically analyse the role of social media in society.
5. Effectively construct a 5 paragraph persuasive essay, including outlining.
