IR20260 Aistriúchán Dlíthiúil Intro

Academic Year 2022/2023

Tá an cúrsa seo dírithe ar mhic léinn dara bliana ar an BCL Dlí le Gaeilge atá ag iarraidh obair mar aistritheoirí dlíthiúla nó mar dhlítheangeolaithe in Éirinn nó san Aontas Eorpach. Beidh sé mar aidhm ag an gcúrsa bunoiliúint a thabhairt do mhic léinn maidir leis na rialacha casta gramadaí agus an chomhréir chasta a fheictear go minic i réimse an dlí. Tabharfar an deis do mhic léinn aithris a dhéanamh ar an gcomhréir in abairtí samplacha ón reachtaíocht. Déanfar síorchleachtadh ar rialacha gramadaí a bheidh feicthe ag mic léinn cheana i ranganna teanga, mar aon le cinn níos casta atá an-choitianta sa reachtaíocht. Pléifear an tábhacht a bhaineann le cruinneas teanga don aistriúchán agus roinnt de na dúshláin is mó maidir leis an aistriúchán ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge sa chomhthéacs dlíthiúil. Ina theannta sin, tabharfar réamhrá do mhic léinn maidir le ról an aistritheora dlíthiúil agus ról an dlítheangeolaí, ceisteanna a scagfar go mion sa tríú agus sa cheathrú bliain den BCL. Má éiríonn leat sa mhodúl seo sa dara bliain, beidh tú in ann tabhairt faoi IR30350 Aistriúchán Dlithiúil 1 sa tríú bliain.

This course is aimed at second year students on the BCL Law with Irish who wish to work as legal translators or lawyer linguists in Ireland or in the European Union. The objective of the course will be to give students a grounding in the complex grammatical rules and syntax often seen in the legal sphere. Students will be given the opportunity to imitate the syntax in sample sentences from legislation. There will be continual practice of grammatical rules that students will already have seen in language classes, as well as more complex ones that are very common in legislation. The importance of linguistic accuracy for translation will be discussed, together with some of the greatest challenges in relation to translating from English to Irish in the legal context. In addition, students will gain an introduction to the role of the legal translator and the role of the lawyer linguist, topics that will be examined in detail in the third and fourth year of the BCL. If you pass this module in your second year, you will be able to proceed to IR30350 Legal Translation 1 in your third year.
