Learning Outcomes:
On completion, participants should be able to:
• Appreciate entrepreneurship and an understanding of its role in the context of their career aspirations
and be able to apply this learning to their PhD expertise and chosen field
• Recognise and generate potential opportunities for themselves and opportunities which may emerge in collaboration with others
• Develop and execute a structured plan to move ideas from the creative ideas stage through evaluation and realisation of the new venture
• Identify and analyse problems that are likely to be encountered during the development and implementation process and develop strategies to overcome them
• Clearly and confidently articulate a new venture proposal

• Identifying and defining problems-to-be-solved (jobs-to-be-done, pains and gains) using customer discovery techniques such as interviews, observation and secondary research
• Generating solutions for problems defined through brainstorming, empathy mapping and customer journey mapping
• Value proposition design: identifying value propositions for chosen customer segments
• Business model canvas; taking a helicopter view of your new venture
• Prototyping, experimentation and testing
• Iterating and pivoting
• Pitching
