This module is about understanding the role of HRM practitioners in aligning HR activities to business and stakeholder needs. During the module, we introduce models, tools and techniques for analysing business and organizational challenges and translating the results into HRM insights that inform effective approaches to HRM activities. We focus on the links between HR strategy and HR activities, the nature of the HRM function and HR metrics, organization, work and team design, and enabling change readiness. The importance of business acumen and metrics in evaluating and guiding HRM activities are central to this module.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module, the following learning outcomes are envisaged:
• LO.1: You will develop business insights to guide HR strategy and plans
• LO.2: You will gain knowledge of the HR Function and how it is evaluated by key stakeholders
• LO.3: You will achieve familiarity with HR metrics used to measure HR impact and contribution
• LO.4: You will understand the links between HRM and performance from multiple perspectives
• LO.5: You will achieve familiarity with the basic approaches to organization design, work design and team performance from a
HRM perspective
• LO.6: You will understand diverse frameworks and models for managing change

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Student engagement will be encouraged and developed through debate, discussion, presentations and critical analysis of case studies in order to deepen understanding of HRM, alignment with stakeholder needs, organisation development, HRM function development and change management.
