This module is primarily intended for postgraduate students intending to pursue a career in Human Resource Management (HRM), who have not yet had the opportunity to gain HR work-related experience. The module aims to provide students with an opportunity to develop competencies in areas such as: selection interviewing; performance management; grievance and discipline handling;and the development and dissemination of HR policies.

Learning Outcomes:

"On completing this module students should:*Have developed some of the skills that are routinely used when managing HR in an organisation (e.g. selection interviewing, grievance handling)*Be able to formulate the most appropriate HR policies for an organisation and discuss the rationale that underpins their recommendations*Demonstrate the value of effectively implementing good HR practices."

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module will be delivered as a series of workshops. Students will participate in role plays and group discussions and they will also be asked to make formal presentations and prepare management style reports which provide advice and guidance on the development and dissemination of HR policies and practices.

Learning Requirements:

Students undertaking this module should have some understanding of human resource management and should therefore have successfully completed a HRM course at either undergraduate or postgraduate level.
