This module offers graduate students a unique, hands-on introduction to conducting major research projects in the humanities. Designed to simulate a professional research environment, this internship-style course allows you to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, enhancing both your research and collaborative skills.

Program Structure:

At the beginning of the academic year, you will receive an email detailing a variety of project options, each led by experienced principal investigators from the School of History. These projects vary each year, providing fresh and exciting opportunities that align with the dynamic fields of historical research. You will select a project that not only matches your academic interests but also complements your existing skill set, ensuring a mutually beneficial engagement.

Learning Experience:

Under the guidance of a principal research investigator, you will contribute to the development and execution of significant research endeavours. This collaboration will involve various stages of research, from initial data gathering and analysis to the presentation of findings. The module is structured to help you:

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
You will actively engage in hands-on research, ensuring a practical, immersive learning experience. To support your development and ensure success in your tasks, you will receive comprehensive training tailored to the specific requirements of your project. This training is designed to equip you with both the foundational and advanced skills necessary for effective historical research.

As part of a team-based project, you will learn the dynamics of collaborative scholarly work. This involves:

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Working alongside researchers possibly from different specialisations within the field of history, which enriches the research process and your understanding of complex historical issues.

Project Management: Either through observing, or organising your own part of the project, you will gain experience in managing various aspects of a research project, from planning and execution to evaluation, which is crucial for any future roles in academia or related fields.

Communication Skills: Developing clear and effective communication strategies, essential for working within a team and for presenting research findings
