The Dissertation is an opportunity to conduct original research in a relevant area of medieval studies. Guided by a supervisor, the student will choose a topic of his or her choice, work on relevant primary sources and secondary literature, and write a dissertation of around 12,000 words. This module is designed to deepen the student’s understanding of a particular topic, and also to develop generic research skills appropriate for an MA graduate in the field.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this module the student should have:
- a detailed understanding of a particular topic in Medieval Studies.
- experience of working effectively with primary source materials.
- experience of engaging with the work of other scholars.
- experience of presenting a substantial piece of written work in a scholarly manner.
- developed generic research skills appropriate to the field.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
