*work with their supervisor in order to design and execute an independent research project;
*analyse, and critically engage with, relevant ancient material;
*analyse, and critically engage with, relevant modern scholarship;
*formulate and put forward an argument (thesis statement) that is supported by evidence and reasoning;
*clearly structure and communicate their independent research in alignment with School formatting guidelines;

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:

This module is completed through independent study and scheduled meetings with a designated supervisor. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange meetings with a supervisor. Where any concerns may arise, please contact the module coordinator.

In the first trimester the module coordinator/postgraduate coordinator will meet with students in order to discuss possible topics for research. Students will then be assigned a supervisor who will help guide them through the initial process of refining their topic of study. During the year the student will arrange to meet with their supervisor to discuss their ideas and to set targets and deadlines.

Please note that due to planned staff leave, changes to staff workload, and unexpected events, e.g. illness, supervision may be carried out by more than one member of staff.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students will receive individual feedback on drafts of sections of their thesis. Individual, post-assessment feedback will be provided through the VLE.
