Curricular information is subject to change.

This module is primarily for Commerce International Students of German but is also open as an elective for students of German planning to go on Erasmus to Germany or Austria. It focuses on the linguistic, cultural and intellectual context in which Commerce International students of German will conduct their studies whilst on their year abroad.
Students will work with contemporary German-language materials in order to explore key ideas and concepts underpinning the discourses of economics, business and business-studies in German-speaking countries- Furthermore, students will learn about some of the key structures and characteristics of the third-level institutions in which they will study. This will enable students to participate more effectively in the year abroad programme.

Since the content will be taught in German, we strongly recommend that students who sign up for the module have at least the equivalent of the B1 level.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module requires the student to prepare assignments in order to use group-based activities during class.
By using videos and audios students will receive further input regarding the different topics and students are required to actively engage in discussions and present their opinion.
Furthermore, using the marketing mix, students will prepare a group presentation about a product they developed.
Students will also be required to conduct an interview about the year abroad in Germany or Austria.

The course is amber on UCD's AI traffic light system, which means you can use AI to research or help with pronunciation, but not to write your scripts. If you use it, you must say at the end which form of generative AI you used and which prompts you used.
