GEOG30930 Research Skills

Academic Year 2021/2022

This course focuses on common research methods in Geography focusing on the collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data. The topics covered by the class include descriptive and inferential statistics, sampling and statistical analysis. A major focus of the course is on the analysis of publicly available datasets and on evaluating published papers and their methods.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
My approach to teaching includes lectures to outline topics followed by exercises and examples to demonstrate methods. I use notes and videos where needed to show how to use software. Published papers are used to link the topics in the module to topical issues in the academic literature and in current affairs.
