GDIC3015K Cell Biology Experiments

Academic Year 2023/2024

Experiment of cell biology is designed to help undergraduate students to appreciate arts of cell and cell biology, through classroom presentation by teachers and operation by students. It trains students to use microscopy to recognize subcellular structures and cellular patterns in different tissues, to understand life at the cellular level. This course is also expected to develop students’ abilities of experiment design, data collecting and analysis, and rational discussion of their results.

Experiment 1 Supravital staining of mitochondria and vacuolar system
Experiment 2 Utilization of fluorescene microscope, phase contrast microscope, dark field microscope and microscopic measurement
Experiment 3 Cytochemical staining: Feulgen reaction, Brachet reaction and PAS reaction
Experiment 4 Cytoskeleton
Experiment 5 Animal cell fusion
Experiment 6 Preparation of plant chromosomes
Experiment 7 Preparation of animal chromosomes
Experiment 8 Karyotype analysis
