GDIC2018K Horticultural Plant Protection (Theory & Experiments)

Horticultural Plant Protection & Experiment is designed for Stage 2 Students who are undertaking dual undergraduate degree programmes at Guangzhou-Dublin International College. The module specifically aims to train students to master the basic knowledge and skills of horticultural plant pathology and horticultural entomology, and have the basic ability to engage in the research and control of horticultural plant diseases and pests. Students need to understand the pathogens of horticultural plant diseases, as well as the morphological characterization of various pathogens and the types of diseases, master the basic morphological characterization of insects, and be able to identify all kinds of common insects, master the occurrence regularity of various diseases and pests, and have the basic ability to diagnose and control diseases and pests.

The theoretical courses are mainly taught by teachers, supplemented by students' participation, combined with case teaching method, situational teaching method and discussion teaching method. The experimental course is completed in the mode of teacher teaching and demonstration, and students' leading participation. Different experiments are completed by students independently or in groups.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
• master the basic knowledge of horticultural plant pathology and horticultural entomology.
• grasp the basic research methods of horticultural plant pathology and horticultural entomology.
• identify the morphological characteristics of various common pathogens and recognize the corresponding disease types.
• master the basic morphological structure of insects and recognize the categories of common horticultural insects.
• understand the occurrence law of various diseases and pests.
• accurate diagnosis of common horticultural plant diseases and pests.
