GDIC2012K Biochemistry module is delivered by Jikai Wen, SCAU module coordinator.

This course is designed to introduce undergraduate students to contemporary approaches and paradigms in the field of biochemistry. The module consists of two part, theoretic study and experiments. The course covers proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, sugars, lipids, vitamins and metabolism. Evaluations will include discussions, essays, and oral presentations. They will see how previously published work forms the foundation for today's experiments, and experience the excitement and interest of a scientific community.
The purpose of Experiment course is to train students to observe biochemical phenomena, correctly record experimental data and analyze experimental results, so that students have the basic experimental ability in the field of life sciences

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

• Understand the basic concepts for biochemical molecules.
• Know the main metabolism pathways for biomolecule synthesis and degradation
• Accurately record and present their experimental data.
• Analyse the data and oral communicate with the results.
• Research, plan and write an essay on a topic in biochemistry.
• Use the learned principles to address scientific questions in Biochemistry.
