GDIC1015K Chemistry Experiments 1

Academic Year 2023/2024

General Chemistry ExperimentsⅠis designed for Stage 1 Students who are undertaking dual undergraduate degree programmes at Guangzhou-Dublin International College. General Chemistry Experiments works to improve the ability of all chemical undergraduates to make meaningful chemical analysis and measurements. This module specifically aims to develop the practical skills of chemical experiments. General Chemistry ExperimentsⅠ including inorganic chemistry experiments and analytical chemistry experiments. The module is designed for students to master the basic operation skills of the experiments, such as reagent preparation, sample precondition, washing, heating and cooling of substances in basic chemical experiments, separation and purification, instrument installation, sample analysis, recording the data, error analysis, result reporting.

Experiments are taught in addition to develop students’ chemistry experimental skills so they can deeply understand and apply the concepts and chemistry theories. Students will often be expected to work collaboratively in both theories and experimental classes. They should master the sample processing, record dada correctly, and make correct judgment and analysis of the experimental error and its source.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

-experiments skills occurred in inorganic and analytical chemistry.
-review of chemical stoichiometry, design applications of chemical experiment skills.
-calculate the data in chemical reactions (including acid base reaction, complexation reaction, precipitation reaction, redox reaction).
-gasp the principle of chemical thermodynamics and equilibriums.
-accurately distinguish the chemistry that can occur in a sample.
-evaluate the analytical data, include determinate errors, indeterminate errors, gross errors, the uses of statistic, the standard deviation of computed results, methods for reporting analytical data.
-make out analysis and sample handling methods for a wide variety of problems.
-determine proper data analysis and record keeping methods.
