GDIC1014K Inorganic & Analytical Chem

Academic Year 2023/2024

Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry is designed for Stage 1 Students who are undertaking dual undergraduate degree programmes at Guangzhou-Dublin International College. Inorganic and Analytical chemistry works to improve the ability of all chemical undergraduates to make meaningful chemical analysis and measurements. The module specifically aims to develop students’ fundamental Chemistry background knowledge, such as chemical thermodynamics, equilibriums, chemical reactions (including acid base reaction, complexation reaction, precipitation reaction, redox reaction). Other chemistry background knowledge, as errors and data handling, titrations, chemical analysis are also required.

Classes are taught together with experiments. In addition to developing chemistry principles and experimental skills, classroom activities will support the development of students’ academic study competences and independent language learning strategies. Students will often be expected to work collaboratively in both theorise and experimental classes.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
-accurately distinguish the chemistry that can occur in a sample.
-gasp the principle of chemical thermodynamics and equilibriums.
-calculate the data in chemical reactions (including acid base reaction, complexation reaction, precipitation reaction, redox reaction).
-make out analysis and sample handling methods for a wide variety of problems.
-determine proper data analysis and record keeping methods.
-evaluate the analytical data, include determinate errors, indeterminate errors, gross errors, the uses of statistic, the standard deviation of computed results, methods for reporting analytical data.
-review of chemical stoichiometry, design applications of chemical methods.
-do the experiments of thermodynamics, equilibriums, titrimetric methods of analysis.
