This module follows and builds on the formal analysis skills introduced in FS10010 Introduction to Film and Media. In Spring, students will be introduced to key theoretical ideas about film and media and a variety of approaches to interpreting and understanding film, television and digital media in context. Topics may include: gender, race, sexuality, industry, and audiences, among others. The class will include case studies in film, television, and other media forms.

Learning outcomes:
-An understanding of key theoretical ideas about film and media

-An ability to analyse media texts in light of those ideas

-An understanding of how film and media has been shaped by technological, historical, and cultural change

-The capacity to organise a basic, cogent argument about a media text and defend it with formal evidence from the film, television show, or other media text
