This is a language module aimed at learners who have consolidated CEFR Level B1.

It builds on the foundation provided in Language Ia and Ib. It enables students to develop competence in the written and spoken expression of opinions and ideas, to improve reading and listening comprehension and oral production, and to consolidate mastery of a number of essential grammatical structures.

Students who have achieved at least a B grade in this module are deemed to be successfully progressing towards the CEFR level B2.

NB It is necessary to pass this module, as well as FR20040, to progress into *any* Level 3 French module.

Please note that this module is designated Red in accordance with the College of Arts AI Traffic Light System: you must not use generative AI for any purposes.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students should have developed their ability to:

* identify and employ correctly complex syntactical and lexical structures that facilitate communication and expression at an advanced level;

* follow discussions / interviews / reports delivered in complex spoken French (including Francophone media), display comprehension of salient details, and answer questions regarding them;

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Lectures, seminars, weekly writing assignments, autonomous learning.

There are three class hours weekky:

1. Weekly grammar lecture
2. Weekly grammar / written expression seminar
3. Oral seminar focussing on aural comprehension


Students will complete a number of in-class grammar quizzes as part of their formal assessment

Students must have passed FR10020 or FR10070.
