Curricular information is subject to change.

This module will introduce students to the fundamentals of business communication, both its practice and theory. Students will be expected to develop their personal communications skills (written, verbal and non verbal) by undertaking the program, but will also develop an understanding of core communication theories, helping to build their own communication effectiveness and persuasion powers. While the broad arena of 21st century communications will be explored, the content will be approached through the prism of the modern digital business ecosystem. Key to the module will be students’ ability to understand persuasion and influence and how such skills might be personally beneficial in the world of finance and markets. In addition to this, the module aims to equip students with the skills to be media literate and communicate effectively across multiple channels in an era of misinformation and disinformation. The module will also examine how organisations, particularly corporate entities, strategically utilise communication channels to enhance and defend corporate reputation and to persuade external audiences and important stakeholders. Students will also learn how their personal communications, via social media platforms, should be deployed in a corporate environment. See below for detailed outline of program lectures, activities and practical work (practical exercises are in bold).
