This course covers the core fundamentals of derivative securities and the important role that they play in financial markets. This is not a highly intensive quantitative course and as such our focus will not be on any quantitative theories underlying derivative securities, we will only touch on some of their core underlying principles where necessary for an appropriate understanding the pricing of different derivative products. Our primary focus will be to provide a very good understanding of the practical applications of derivatives in financial markets using real world examples.

We will have very interactive classes where participation in discussions and questions is highly encouraged. We will focus on the practical real-world applications of the concepts we introduce.

The primary textbook is John Hull’s “Options Futures and Other Derivatives”, Global Edition. We will also use some chapters from John Hull's "Risk Management and Financial Institutions" (fifth edition). I will upload other Articles to Brightspace as necessary and these will be referenced in updated versions of this Course Outline also.
