FIN42090 Corporate Finance (Mod)

In this module, students will develop an understanding of the role of the financial manager within a company in terms of appraising investments, quantifying the risk/return relationship, identifying, evaluating and selecting the appropriate sources of finance to fund investment projects. Furthermore, the module will seek to develop student's understanding of decision making in mergers and
acquisitions, optimal capital structure and dividend policy.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should: -
1. Understand why shareholder wealth maximisation is considered to be the primary objective of a business.
2. Achieve a good practical understanding of the 3 principal fi nancial decisions that flow from shareholder wealth maximisation, namely
i) the fi nancing decision,
ii) the investment decision, and,
iii) the dividend decision.
3. Appreciate the theoretical principles associated with the 3 principal financial decisions.
4. Develop an understanding of functional fi nancial decisions, such as mergers and asset valuation.
