This module provides an introduction and comprehensive overview of the terms, concepts, approaches and tools of environmental management. The module is designed to give students an understanding of the conceptual basis and approaches of environmental management in the context of natural resources and environmental issues related transportation and planning issue.
It examines key themes in the sustainable management of environmental resources, food security, climate change, biodiversity loss, and the protection of water, land and ecosystems. These are globally important environmental issues, in urban development, agriculture and other land use and systems.
This module incorporates studies of environmental policy and politics, and of governance for sustainable development and sustainable management of socio-ecological systems.

The module provides the students with an opportunity to learn about global trends that influence the environment and the human living conditions, socio-ecological systems and how different environmental management approaches have been applied around the world to manage the environment and mitigate the negative impacts (e.g. sustainable soil management, groundwater protection and integrated Water resources management).

The module adopts an interdisciplinary approach in its observation, analysis and management of environmental change and challenges including resource evaluation and assessment, behavioral science, environmental governance, policy instruments.

This module is delivered overseas and it is for CDIC students only.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- Understand key terms approaches and concepts of environmental management
- Have an understanding of the major environmental and natural resources issues of socio-ecological systems
- Illustrate the key environmental management strategies and tools available to address environmental and natural resource issues
- Analyse and synthesize scientific data and information to inform environmental policy and management strategies
- Develop objectives to provide a framework for sustainable and adaptive environmental management
