In this module, students will explore the current and pressing sustainable development challenges and their relation with transport. The course will delve into the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, starting with a discussion of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their feasibility. In the first chapter, students will gain an understanding of the SDGs, exploring key areas related to the 17 different SDGs and participating in debates on relevant academic and policy topics. The second chapter will investigate the significance of transport to each of the 17 SDGs, examining how transport can play a role in achieving the goals. The final chapter will address the challenges of realising sustainable transport solutions and will introduce students to the key components of sustainable transport solutions. This chapter will explore the complexities of bringing about sustainable transport and will identify the key components that are necessary for creating sustainable transport systems. By the end of this module, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between sustainable development and transport, and will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions in the field of sustainable transport. Throughout the course students are set tasks and forced to ask questions of the material they are presented. Class participation and active learning is emphasised throughout.

Learning Outcomes:

On the successful completion of the course, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, including the 17 SDGs;
- Outline the connection between sustainable development and transport;
- Examine the impact of transport on the SDGs and assess its role in achieving them;
- Investigate challenges in implementing sustainable transport solutions;
- Begin to develop critical reading, presentation and writing skills.
