Students are invited to come up with their own small-scale digital project based on what they have learned on the course. There is an emphasis on the acquisition of independent project management and practical skills. Students will have a 2 hour class session dedicated to Digital Project planning, resources and delivery.

They will also complete a short digital project plan which will be used to assign the student project a suitable academic supervisor who will provide support and guidance for the duration of the project. The purpose of this module is to equip students with the capacity to demonstrate some of the digital competencies they have acquired as part of the Professional Certificate through the production of engaging online content.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

- Enhanced digital competence, including introductions to multimedia storytelling.
- An ability to practically apply knowledge gained during the course to research, create and showcase an individual digital project.
- Basic project planning, time-management and realistic goal-setting to achieve project outcomes.
- Students will create an individual digital project, manage its development, evaluate resource materials and identify and use appropriate tools to deliver it.
- Recognize and use appropriate copyright citation and licensing for newly created digital projects/works.
- Learn digital communication strategies appropriate to a given work environment, and the ability to communicate research effectively. Strengthen skills in online research, study and writing.
-Strengthen your capacity to work independently and collaborate with peers and mentors and gain experience and skills as part of creating your digital project.

Please note that Generative AI technologies may not be used on this module in line with the UCD College of Arts and Humanities guidelines.

Indicative Module Content:

Workshops and one to one mentoring will be provided on a scheduled basis to enable students to create an individual digital plan and then embark on their digital project, manage its development, evaluate resource materials and identify and use appropriate tools to deliver it.

The rationale for the digital project assignment is to help you gain practical experience of planning and completing a small scale digital project and to use some of the tools you have learned about on the course. Before beginning your project, it will be important to ask yourself the following questions:

- What am I trying to achieve with this project?
- Is it to showcase new research?
- Is it to make your chosen materials available in an easier to access format to promote engagement?
- Is it to digitize something or to curate a collection/exhibition of works/images/maps relating to a certain theme or and present them in a new way?
- Is it to show how historical or cultural material can be made more accessible and appealing to a wider general audience?

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module is delivered through a combination of online lectures, one-to-one meetings with a member of the teaching team who will supervise the digital project. It encourages students to practice the skills they have learned as part of the Digital Methods companion module. It has a large self-directed component as it involves the development and delivery of an independent digital project. It also has a short presentation component where students will have the opportunity to introduce and share their digital project with fellow students in Week 12.
