EEEN40700 MEngSc Electrical Project

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module serves as a capstone to the one year MEngSc in Electrical Power Networks. Within this module, students will be assigned an academic supervisor, under whom they will work on a substantial dissertation project in the area of electrical engineering over the Summer months.

The purpose of this module is to equip students with the research and specialists skills to allow them to flourish as productive electrical engineers pushing forward technical progress within the profession.

Learning Outcomes:

- Students will have the ability to ambitiously explore new topics in the evolving world of electrical engineering

- Students will be empowered to master new software tools to open up new simulation and analytic capabilities, as appropriate

- Students will learn how to compose, structure and illustrate a substantial technical document to a high standard of academic writing

Indicative Module Content:

Module content will focus on student projects that explore various advanced research topics in electrical power systems, for instance simulation, optimization and analysis of transmission and distribution networks.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The particular research and specialist skills will be taught largely in the one-to-one context of meetings between supervisor and student, at an expected frequency of at least once per week.

The module VLE will host broader resources relevant to the conduct of a successful dissertation project.
