EEEN40200 ME Prof. Work Exp. (Short)

Academic Year 2021/2022

This work placement module enables students to gain career related experience in a real working environment. Students will normally have already undergone 3.5 years of formal engineering education. The placement may involve summer or term-time work outside or inside UCD. Within UCD the work could be with an established UCD research group (e.g. with PhD researchers) on a part-time basis or it may involve participation in a supervised group design project during the teaching trimester(s). The work experience takes place in a professional engineering setting. Students make their own application for positions and may have to do interviews. Alternatively, students may make their own suggestions with regard to placements but these must be approved by the programme board. The student is jointly supervised by a member of academic staff and somebody from within the host organisation. On completion of the placement the student writes a report detailing their experiences. They may also be required to do an interview and make a presentation to their classmates. This module is assessed on a pass/fail basis and is grade neutral with regard to degree GPA.
