This module introduces the theory behind communication at the physical layer. The basic problem is to transfer information with acceptable quality over an imperfect channel. Topics include: baseband transmission of analogue signals; noise, distortion and other impairments; modulation and demodulation of analogue signals; baseband transmission of digital signals; modulation and detection of digital signals.
