This module focuses on doctoral level research in the field of educational psychology. Students will explore the role of different types of research in educational psychology and how it contributes to the field of practice. They will be introduced to different types of quantitative and qualitative research design and methodology, and mixed methods approaches. Students will explore different philosophical paradigms and ethical issues underpinning research methods. Students will learn about systematic literature reviewing and will be supported to produce and implement a systematic review protocol in order to produce a systematic literature review.

Learning Outcomes:

• Identify different research approaches used in educational psychology
• Conceptualise and evaluate the feasibility of educational psychology research questions
• Understand, at a foundational level, the role of theory in research
• Differentiate between different philosophical paradigms underpinning research
• Understand ethical issues relevant to educational psychology research and social research more broadly
• Identify and reflect on the utility of various methods used in qualitative and qualitative research
• Understand the overarching process of systematic literature reviewing (SLR)
• Write and implement a systematic literature review protocol to produce a systematic literature review

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Formative feedback will be given from module staff during student presentations of work in progress. Peer feedback will be given during student presentations of work in progress. The Research Studies Panel member will grade the submission and give written feedback to the student post-submission, via email. General feedback will be given to the group in a tutorial, post-submission.
