Teaching Climate Action & Sustainability

This module will provide a comprehensive introduction to the teaching of Climate Action & Sustainability in the framework of the new Leaving Certificate CASD course. It will develop students’ personal understanding of sustainability and climate action while equipping them as future teachers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to effectively incorporate these concepts into their teaching activities.

Key Learning Objectives:

Deepen understanding of the concept of sustainability and its relationship to sustainable development and climate action within the context of the EU Green Deal and UN Agenda 2030.
Build knowledge and understanding of the scientific principles underlying climate change and its impacts.
Develop effective pedagogical strategies and teaching methods for integrating sustainability and climate action concepts into various subject areas.
Acquire skills for creating engaging and interactive learning experiences that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving related to sustainability and climate action.
Explore the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental systems in the contemporary political context of sustainability and climate action.
