On completion of this module, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the requirements of the second-level Junior Cycle syllabus for Irish post-primary schools, to include Junior Certificate and the non-exam dimensions of Religious Education.
• Gain a clear understanding of the structure of the Junior cycle syllabus and have an in depth knowledge of the content of the course.
• Design lesson plans and schemes of work that incorporate a variety of teaching and learning approaches that acknowledge the need to make pupils active participants in their learning, using appropriate syllabus documents and resources.
• Have a clear understanding of policy and planning for inclusion of students of other faiths in the Religious Education classroom.
• Have a clear understanding of effective classroom management and discuss, demonstrate and incorporate effective procedures for dealing with students who have behavioural difficulties.
• Develop reflective practice and think critically about the process of teaching and learning Religious Education.
• Appreciate the value of mindfulness and meditation practices in the Religious Education classroom and demonstrate their ability to effectively facilitate a mediation session for students.
• Incorporate appropriate formative and summative assessment strategies into their classroom practice to support pupil learning.
• Demonstrate their ability to use information and multimedia technology to enhance student learning.
