This module will be delivered by the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems in UCD.

The fourth module of this programme is dedicated to the area of primary and complex care needs associated with certain medical and neurological conditions. While nursing needs may be referred to, it will become clear to Special Needs Assistants what tasks and skills are included within their daily support activities.

Learning Outcomes:

This highly specialized area of study prepares students to support primary and complex care needs of students who have difficulties with independence in fundamental skills such as feeding, communicating, swallowing or toileting.

This module offers a rare opportunity for training within this sensitive and demanding area of support for students with primary and complex care needs related to medical or neurological conditions.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems in UCD will deliver this module through a team of specialists in a range of disciplines. Explicit instruction on how to safely support a range of needs will be facilitated through video-modelling and interactive activities. Teaching and learning strategies for this module will also include interactive knowledge checks.
